2025–2026 NYS Inflation Refund Checks – What You Need to Know

New York State has announced its first-ever Inflation Refund Checks as part of the 2025–2026 budget. These one-time payments are designed to help offset the impact of inflation on household expenses—particularly increased sales tax costs.

No action is required—if you qualify, the state will automatically mail your check starting in mid-October 2025. Over eight million New Yorkers are expected to benefit.

Who Qualifies?

You are eligible if, for the 2023 tax year, you:

  • Filed Form IT-201 as a full-year NY resident
  • Reported income within the qualifying thresholds below
  • Were not claimed as a dependent on another return

Refund Amounts

Filing Status 2023 NY AGI Refund

  • Single / Head of Household / Married Filing Separate $75,000 or less $200
  • Single / Head of Household / Married Filing Separate $75,001–$150,000 $150
  • Married Filing Joint / Qualified Surviving Spouse $150,000 or less $400
  • Married Filing Joint / Qualified Surviving Spouse $150,001–$300,000 $300

Important Details

  • Checks will be mailed (no direct deposit) to the address on your most recent return
  • Update your address via your NYS Online Services account if you’ve moved
  • Refunds are not reduced for outstanding debts
  • Mailing will take several weeks and is not based on zip code or region
